The City of Biddeford
has experienced extraordinary economic growth recently, especially in the manufacturing sector. Biddeford is undertaking several major projects to sustain its economic strength and explore future opportunities including development of its fourth business/industrial park and major road improvements to the Five Points and Route 111 corridor.
The City of Saco is one of the strongest construction markets in southern Maine and York County. A Springhill addition to the Industrial Park located between U. S. Route 1 and Exit 5 of the Maine Turnpike is a major project. The Amtrak station project will also generate significant interest in the downtown business corridor.
Both cities are served by the Biddeford-Saco Area Economic Development Council which promotes sustainable, long-term economic prosperity for the area. The corporation is a catalyst for cooperation, teamwork, and mutual success through the: (1) Creation and retention of quality jobs for the people of Biddeford-Saco, targeting the low to moderate income population; and (2) Development and promotion of policies, projects and programs that will accommodate and capture new investment in Biddeford-Saco. Within the framework of the Mission Statement, the corporation will: (A) Expand access to alternative sources of capital; (B) Market the cities as one economic market place; (C) Act as a catalyst for the planning of a community wide vision.
